Jennifer Schmitz, MSN, EMT-P, CEN, CPEN, CNML, FNP-C, NE-BC, is the 2022 president of the Emergency Nurses Association. She is in her fifth year on the board.
Schmitz has spent her entire career in emergency nursing, primarily in a community hospital setting. She has held a variety of positions including staff nurse, charge nurse, nurse educator, nurse manager and most currently, as the chief nursing officer for Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford, Maine.
Schmitz joined ENA in 2002 as a new graduate nurse. Since 2012, she has been actively involved at the local, state and national level. She served a two-year term as Maine ENA State Council president and was a member of the council’s board of directors. She participated on the ENA Operations Committee in 2016 and 2017. Schmitz is a TNCC and ENPC instructor.
Schmitz has an associate degree in paramedicine from Southern Maine Community College. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine, and later completed her master’s degree in family nurse practitioner at Husson University in Bangor, Maine. She is a certified emergency nurse, certified pediatric emergency nurse, a certified nurse manager and leader and a board-certified nurse executive.
