Due to an increase in volume of applications and the approaching Emergency Nursing Conference, we encourage applicants adhere to the 6-week deadline when submitting an application for CNE Approval.
ENA cannot guarantee timely review of applications received less than 6-weeks prior to the start activity.

CNE Application Approval Process

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Accreditation criteria require that providers plan, implement and evaluate quality continuing nursing education activities with integrity, free from the undue influence of commercial interest organizations, ensuring integrity and independence.

The ENA Approver Unit reviews and approves continuing nursing education activities: Through a peer review process, ENA evaluates the quality and appropriateness of education activities that are of benefit to emergency nurses.

Review the ANCC Content Integrity Standards for Industry Support in Continuing Nursing Educational Activities.

The Emergency Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

The ENA CNE Approver Unit welcomes consultations with nurse planners. Please take the opportunity to propose times to schedule a conference call with the Nurse Peer Review Leader to discuss any issues you may have while planning, or following a CNE activity.

Before you submit your application

Keep the following in mind as you prepare and submit your application for approval:

Submitting your application

Submit all application forms electronically to CNE@ena.org. Applications documents will not be accepted if they are scanned as JPEGs and/or faxed. All forms must be typed; handwritten forms will not be accepted. Please keep all documents in their original format. Multiple emails and zip files are acceptable for larger programs. Education Planning Tables must remain in Word format (do not “save as” PDF).

Renaming files? For better organization of files, consider following a theme or pattern for renaming documents so they can be grouped together according to the form “type.” This allows the ENA staff to easily conduct a quantitative review of all files.

If you do not receive an electronic confirmation within one business day, your program was not received at the ENA Approver Unit. ENA Approver Unit staff will perform a quantitative review of your application before it is sent for nurse peer review. You will be notified if anything further is needed prior to nurse peer review. A nurse peer reviewer is allotted two weeks to review an activity, regardless of size. Be mindful of your activity date to allow for proper review time.

Contact the ENA Approver Unit regarding special circumstances and expedited reviews. The ENA Approver Unit cannot guarantee review of an activity that is received less than two weeks prior to the activity date.

CNE Payment and Contact Information

Please note that CNE fees are based on the total number of contact hours reviewed and if your organization is an ENA Chapter or State Council. The ENA Approver Unit will invoice the nurse planner/point of contact. If you have a question about payment, please contact the ENA Approver Unit at 847.460.2625.

Have a Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Concern?

ENA is committed to your development and implementation of quality continuing nursing education products that are fully aligned with American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation educational design criteria.

During or following the activity, there may be instances where learners may have significant concerns and issues beyond the scope of the evaluation form. Consequently, as an ANCC accredited Provider Unit and Approver Unit, ENA has established a complaint access system where learners can submit concerns regarding any attended education event.

We encourage learners who successfully completed any ENA CNE program to contact the CNE Unit regarding any concerns about our educational programs.

Concerns can be submitted in one of the following methods:
