Module 1: Gastrointestinal Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments and interventions for gastrointestinal medical and surgical emergencies, including upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding and obstructions, liver, gall bladder, and pancreatic conditions.

Module 2: Neurologic Emergencies
A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for neurologic medical and surgical emergencies, including chronic neurologic disorders, headaches, meningitis, seizures, stroke, spinal cord injury, and other traumatic injuries.
Module 3: Shock

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for shock emergencies including hypovolemic, cardiogenic, distributive (anaphylactic, neurogenic, and septic), and obstructive shock states.

Module 4: Cardiovascular Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for cardiovascular medical and traumatic emergencies including acute coronary syndrome and myocardial infarction, dysrhythmias, heart failure, shock, traumatic injuries, and peripheral vascular disease.

Module 5: Respiratory Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for respiratory medical and thoracic trauma emergencies including upper and lower airway conditions and obstructions, pneumothorax, inhalation and other injuries, pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolus, and respiratory distress syndrome.

Module 6: Maxillofacial and Ocular Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for maxillofacial and ocular medical and traumatic emergencies, including abscess, dental and facial nerve conditions, epistaxis, infections, vestibular dysfunction, ruptured tympanic membrane, temporomandibular joint dislocation, ocular abrasions, burns, foreign bodies, infections, and ulcerations, glaucoma, retinal artery occlusion, retinal detachment, hyphema, and globe rupture.

Module 7: Medical Emergencies and Communicable Diseases

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for medical emergencies and communicable diseases, including allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, blood dyscrasias, disseminated intravascular coagulation, electrolyte and fluid imbalance, endocrine conditions, fever, Immunocompromise, renal failure, sepsis and septic shock, childhood diseases, herpes, mononucleosis, multi-drug resistant organisms, and tuberculosis.

Module 8: Psychosocial Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for psychosocial emergencies, including abuse and neglect, aggression and violent behavior, anxiety and panic disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, homicidal and suicidal ideation, and psychosis.

Module 9: Orthopedic and Wound Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for orthopedic and wound emergencies, including amputation, compartment syndrome, contusions, abrasions, lacerations, and avulsions, costochondritis, fractures, dislocations, strains and sprains, inflammatory conditions, infections, missile injuries, and pressure ulcers.

Module 10: Professional Issues

A review of professional issues related to emergency nursing care, including critical incident stress management, ethical dilemmas, evidence-based practice and research, life-long learning, discharge teaching and end-of-life issues, forensic evidence collection, pain management, procedural sedation, patient safety, patient satisfaction, transition of care, delegation, cultural considerations, disaster management, federal regulations, consent, performance improvement, risk management, triage, and symptom surveillance.

Module 11: Environment and Toxicology Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for environmental and toxicologic emergencies, including thermal, chemical, electrical, and radiation burns, envenomation, food poisoning, parasite and fungal infestations, submersion injury, heat and cold injuries, rabies and tick-borne illnesses, acids and alkali ingestions, carbon monoxide, cyanide, drug interactions, overdose and ingestions, substance abuse, and withdrawal syndrome.

Module 12: Genitourinary, Gynecology, and Obstetrical Emergencies

A review of clinical manifestations, assessments, and interventions for genitourinary, gynecologic, and obstetric medical and surgical emergencies, including infection, renal calculi, hemorrhage, sexual assault, testicular torsion, ectopic pregnancy, emergent and preterm delivery, hyperemesis gravidarum, and traumatic injuries.
