Why do you seek a position on the Nomination and Elections Committee?

I am seeking the opportunity to remain in my current position on the Nominations and Election Committee. I would like to continue to recruit and help members who are pursuing leadership roles within ENA. By guaranteeing potential candidates understand the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals, we can ensure ENA has the most qualified candidates to lead our association into the future.

I would also like to explore new ways to promote greater candidate visibility and find ways to stimulate a more robust voter turnout.
As a current ENA Nominations and Elections committee member, I would appreciate the opportunity to continue representing Region 5.

How does your academic, professional background and experience within ENA make you a qualified Nominations and Elections Committee Candidate?

Over the years, I have had many opportunities to grow my professional practice at the local, state, and national levels for ENA, most recently as a member of ENA's Nominations and Election Committee. In each position throughout my ENA career, I have uncovered new and innovative ways to collaborate, and I have learned the true meaning of diversity and inclusion. I have gained a new respect for the principles of honesty and integrity to be a better mentor to new nurses. I have represented New York State at 10 General Assemblies and all the corresponding conferences. Meeting and learning from this diverse worldwide group has allowed me to see the true spirit of philanthropy, which has improved my life, my nursing practice, and the lives of the patients I care for. I intend to apply my experiences to the Committee's purpose, goals, and objectives.

Outline the specific skills you bring, or contributions you hope to make to the ENA Nominations and Elections Committee.

Some of the skills I feel I have carried to the nomination and election committee would be:
My flexibility: collaboration is all about compromise and flexibility. I will not bend over backward, but I will meet you halfway to finish a project and get results we can all agree on.

I'm an active listener: I will listen to the whole presentation and not interrupt, then ask thoughtful and purposeful questions. I am not afraid to speak up for what I believe in and advocate for what I feel is right. I will change my view when offered new clarifying information. Active listening is the key to successful teamwork.

One of my best skills is my ability to be a team player. I am willing to take the lead or stand back and wait to be called upon.
I would like to see the committee numbers grow by adding additional members to the committee to help to facilitate our ability to recruit new leaders and develop additional plans to cultivate and train all who apply. To be transparent when active NEC members are running for reelection it creates a hardship for the remaining members to pick up the candidate’s duties.

Provide a narrative that exemplifies how you demonstrate the Nominations and Elections Committee Competencies.

As a Nursing Supervisor and charge nurse, I must demonstrate multiple competencies daily. Communication is the key to teamwork; clear, concise instructions equate to goals being met. As an emergency nurse, functioning in stressful situations is the norm, not the exception; moving from one patient to the next in a fast-paced environment requires deliberate critical thinking skills and knowledge without hesitation. Critical thinking comes with time. Seeing the potential in every situation is an opportunity to grow new leaders. Everyone brings a different perspective and skill set to the table. My team huddles/collaborates each shift to discuss new equipment, thoughts, and ideas to serve our staff and patients' best interests. Over the past two years, I have gained valuable knowledge and insight into the organization's mission, vision, and values by serving on the NEC. I continually try to instill this knowledge in my staff.
