    Title: The Fire Within
    Opening Session Keynote: Allison Massari

Prepare to be taken on a journey. Allison Massari has an intimate understanding of the demands and challenges of the medical profession, and compelling authority to address the delicate nature of patient-centered care after surviving two life-threatening car accidents — one where she suffered second and third degree burns on over 50% of her body. Allison’s courageous journey from absolute loss to a triumphant and hope-filled life, addresses sensitive topics, shining light on the provider’s immense value to a suffering patient and helping to reinvigorate employees and heal burnout in the workplace.
Allison Massari’s riveting keynote illuminates the value healthcare providers have upon a patient who is suffering and offers real solutions to the struggle of how to keep the patient first despite limited time and other practical constraints. By weaving her remarkable journey with potent life-lessons, Allison highlights the integral nature of patient-centered care and fortifies audience members, reigniting their passion for healthcare.

Note: Some of Massari’s art will be auctioned off at conference.

    Title: Are you a Resuscitationist?
Closing Session Keynote: Scott D. Weingart, MD

Scott Weingart is a physician specializing in Resuscitation & Emergency Department Critical Care. His career has been devoted to bringing Upstairs Care, Downstairs — bringing ICU care down to the ED where it is needed. He is best known for his podcast on Resuscitation and ED Critical Care called the EMCrit Podcast.

He loves his job taking care of the sickest patients, innovating new ways to do it better, and then teaching these concepts to others. Dr. Weingart received his medical degree and completed a residency in emergency medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He then went on to fellowships in trauma, surgical critical care, and ECMO at the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD. He is currently an attending in and chief of the Division of Emergency Critical Care at Stony Brook Hospital. He is a clinical associate professor of emergency medicine at Stony Brook Medicine and an adjunct associate professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

    NEW to Emergency Nursing 2018

Sign up for the Advanced Practice Procedural Skills Lab pre-session. Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in the emergency care setting are required to incorporate procedural skills into their holistic management of acutely ill or injured individuals. Using a “flipped” classroom educational approach, participants in this APRN track will review recorded presentations on clinical indications, contraindications and more. Attendees can also participate in a hands-on practice element, two interactive simulations to promote clinical reasoning skills followed by a basic suturing workshop.

All advanced practice courses for ENA’s annual conference are provided in partnership with the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

    • ENA has a series of Emergency Nursing 2018 Meet & Greets for first-time attendees or "newbies" and for first-time clinical educators. Newbies can participate in games and activities for networking, socializing and cultivating lasting relationships. Clinical educators will be part of a "speed networking" event in a fun and casual environment.

    Education on the Exhibit Floor

From natural disasters to major accidents, DisastER requires emergency preparedness for catastrophes in the field. This hands-on area offers techniques in S.T.A.R.T. Triage, self-aid, buddy-aid, tourniquet application and lessons from the field. Featuring hands-on work with military SMRT tents, and a medical helicopter, these exercises prepare nurses for emergencies outside of the ED.

    SIM Wars Competition

Back by popular demand, the tournament-style, simulation war competition encourages nurses to work together in teams to achieve the best possible outcome for a patient. The contest will take place across three stages and the winning team will receive the much-coveted SIM Wars trophy and bragging rights!

CLICK HERE to sign up your team of four.

    ED Talks

ED Talks are short, informative talks about new products and services to enhance your ED.

AdvancED is a fully-equipped, mock four-bed emergency department in the Exhibit Hall. This year’s all-new setup provide nurses at any stage of their career with more focused, progressive clinical information and hands-on experience.

    • ED Clinical Simulations: Attendees participate in clinical simulations designed to mimic a real ED setting featuring pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Collaborate with your colleagues to advance your skills and receive immediate feedback from facilitators.
