Joint Letter Recommends Action to Protect Vaccine Access
On Sept. 19 ENA co-signed a letter to the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, along with 74 other organizations, urging action to protect access to one of the most effective tools in preventing disease and protecting quality of life with the following recommendations:
- “To align with the Administration’s commitment to ‘Restoring Gold Standard Science,’ we urge the CDC and Committee to abide by the ACIP Charter and Workgroup Guidance, including its Evidence to Recommendations framework and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach.”
- “The ACIP must act decisively to approve the full schedule of vaccines without limiting choice and creating barriers to access. We urge the committee to allow access to the people who need and want these vaccines.”
- “We urge the committee to clear up the confusion and recommend the COVID-19 vaccines for all Americans ages 6 months and up—restoring choice for those that want to protect themselves from illness, transmission, and long-term complications. Such a recommendation promotes personal choice and puts clinical decision-making back in the hands of healthcare professionals, patients, and their family caregivers. It would also better facilitate reasonable coverage and reimbursement than the current risk-based scheme.”
