Long-time Journal of Emergency Nursing Editor Among Award Recipients
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (June 25, 2025) – ENA honored Annie W. Kelly as a Significant Contributions to the Journal recipient. Kelly has served as the managing editor for the Journal of Emergency Nursing for more than 25 years. Her commitment to excellence and her dedication to supporting authors, editors and the dissemination of best practice resources to emergency nurses is unparalleled.
“Annie has been instrumental in helping drive the best in practice resources to emergency nurses during her time with JEN. It has been an honor to work in partnership with Annie as we continue to advance the journal,” said Journal of Emergency Nursing Editor-in-Chief Anna Valdez, PhD, RN, PHN, CEN, CFRN, CNE, FAEN, FAADN. “Warren, Nancy, Dan and Joseph are also extremely deserving of their awards, dedicating countless hours to ensuring the Journal has the best research emergency nursing has to offer.”
Four additional individuals were honored by the Emergency Nurses Association for their dedication to the Journal of Emergency Nursing.
This year’s JEN Authors of the Year Award recipients are:
• Warren Frankenberger, PhD, RN, et al. for the research paper Triage Accuracy in Pediatrics Using the Emergency Severity Index
• Nancy J. Denke for the clinical paper Local Anesthetic Systemic Toxicity (LAST): More Common Than You Think
Dan Mayer, MD, and Joseph S. Blansfield, MS, NP, TCRN, were also recognized as JEN Reviewers of the Year.
“JEN is an invaluable resource to not only ENA members, but all nurses, and that is due in part to the talented individuals who are dedicated to improving the emergency nursing specialty through evidence-based research,” said ENA President Ryan Oglesby, PhD, MHA, RN, CEN, CFRN, NEA-BC. “This year’s JEN Awards recipients are the perfect examples of how research continues to drive best practices in our specialty.”
This year’s Journal of Emergency Nursing Award recipients will be recognized in September as part of Emergency Nursing 2025 in New Orleans.
JEN is ENA’s peer-reviewed academic journal, published six times a year with original research and updates from the emergency nursing specialty, while also covering practice and professional issues.
