ENA Statement on Federal Government Shutdown
“The far-reaching implications of a federal government shutdown also extend directly and indirectly into emergency departments across the United States.
Without funding, ENA-supported initiatives and programs which focus on, among other things, emergency care for children, nursing workforce development, critical nursing research, the opioid crisis and the health and well-being of health care workers are in danger of being disrupted. Of particular concern are the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development, MISSION ZERO and Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection programs.
Last year, U.S. emergency departments reported more than 155 million patient visits. As the health care safety net across the United States, emergency departments do not shut down, which makes continued funding of these and other important programs vital to emergency care and the health care workers who provide it every day.
ENA encourages lawmakers to find a resolution which limits the interruption of program services and support to health care workers and their patients.”
