ENA Members Travel to Brazil to Learn About Global Nursing
Schaumburg, Ill. (Aug. 19, 2025) - Nineteen emergency nurses are fostering relationships with their peers in Brazil as part of ENA’s Global Exchange program, which began Saturday with six days of visits to various hospitals and nursing schools in the country.
With more than two million nurses and an expansive public and private health care system in Brazil, ENA members are eager to learn from the experiences of their Brazilian counterparts.
“I am honored to be going on ENA’s Global Exchange trip for a second time,” said ENA President Ryan Oglesby, PhD, MHA, RN, CEN, CFRN, NEA-BC, who also went to Argentina in 2023. “Seeing how our colleagues around the globe work, hearing about the issues they also face, comparing how we practice and networking, always leaves me feeling fulfilled and with a greater appreciation for our profession.”
The delegation will visit a multitude of places, including:
- Federal Nursing Council, which oversees nursing practices and guidelines in Brazil
- The University of São Paulo to meet with faculty and students
- The Emergency Department at the Hospital das Clínicas, the largest hospital complex in Latin America and a teaching hospital for the University of São Paulo
- The Santa Casa de Valinhos near Campinas
- The Hospital de Campo Limpo, which is associated with an Emergency Room Unit
- Hospital São Luiz Itaim to learn more about private sector health care and emergency care
As part of ENA’s ongoing efforts to grow its community internationally, the Global Exchange program – in partnership with Citizen Ambassador – once again provided an immersive adventure that features engaging experiences focused on building a greater understanding of emergency nursing and health care around the world.
ENA’s Global Exchange program, with its mission to enhance the appreciation and understanding of emergency nursing in other countries, is in its fourth year. ENA members traveled to the United Arab Emirates in 2022, Argentina in 2023 and Spain in 2024.
