The federal spending package approved Tuesday includes critical funding for ENA priorities that will mean more support for emergency pediatric care, programs to address the nursing shortage and enhance trauma care.

These include more than $305 million for nursing workforce education and development programs; the Mission Zero Act, which allows military trauma teams to work side by side in civilian trauma centers; and more than $24 million for the Emergency Medical Services for Children that helps hospitals ensure they’re ready to provide the best possible care for their youngest patients. The bill also includes funding for the National Institute of Nursing Research, the ED Alternative to Opioids Program, Poison Control Centers, and a new allocation for trauma readiness and coordination.

Several of these were the subject of ENA Action Alerts, and ENA thanks everyone who contacted their lawmakers to support these programs.
