Role

2026 Member-at-Large

Why would you like to serve as Member-at-Large on the Academy of Emergency Nursing Board and what would you like to contribute while serving in that office?

The Academy of Emergency Nursing has been instrumental in the growth of my career. It is my desire to serve on the AEN board to help spread the knowledge and understanding of what the Academy is to the membership of the ENA.

Please share your perspectives and strategies on how the Academy of Emergency Nursing can help advance the profession of emergency nursing.

Emergency nursing is defined by the need for rapid decision making, addressing complex patient needs, and the obligation to provide equitable, compassionate care in every circumstance. As the profession continues to evolve amid workforce shortages, technological change, and increasing patient acuity, the Academy of Emergency Nursing (AEN) is uniquely positioned to guide the next era of practice, scholarship, and policy.

My perspective is that AEN must continue to be both a think tank and an action force. We can best advance emergency nursing by cultivating two interconnected strategies:

  1. Advance Evidence-based Practice and Innovation AEN should expand recognition for research and develop the evidence that translates bedside insights into practice guidelines
  2. Shape Policy and Leadership Development By cultivating nurse leaders as advocates at local, state, national, and global levels, AEN can influence policies on disaster preparedness, opioid response, and emergency department boarding among other needs within the emergency nursing profession.

Through these strategies, the Academy of Emergency Nursing can continue to inspire innovation and elevate emergency care standards worldwide. As a practicing emergency nurse, educator, and researcher, I am committed to contributing to this collective vision—linking scholarship and practice so that emergency nurses thrive and patients receive the highest quality of care.
