Why would you like to serve as Member-at-Large on the Academy of Emergency Nursing Board and what would you like to contribute while serving in that office?
I have been a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Nursing since 2009. I previously served as a member of the Academy board and as Board chair. I believe during my previous term on the Board, I made a valuable contribution and would like to provide service again.
Please share your perspectives and strategies on how the Academy of Emergency Nursing can help advance the profession of emergency nursing.
The AEN Trailblazer Program is an excellent example for how the Academy can advance emergency nursing. There are currently two topics posted to the Academy webpage; there are multiple challenges in emergency nursing that would benefit from additional Trailblazer teams. If elected to serve on the Academy of Emergency Nursing Board, I would champion (and lead) the development of a 5-year strategic action plan where a new critical issue would be addressed annually. Topics could address workplace violence, career progression, orientation processes, use of simulation, burnout, leadership development from the bedside to the boardroom, etc.
In addition, if elected to the Board, I would advocate (and lead) for the development of a strategic plan to significantly increase the number of Academy applicants over a 5-year period. This audacious goal would require collaboration between the fellows, the Academy Board, and other ENA leaders and stakeholders. My background for interprofessional collaboration, history on the ENA Board of Directors and Academy Board, and experience leading strategic teams with actualized outcomes situate me to accomplish this goal.
