The content prepares the emergency nurse to improve triage of psychiatric emergencies, conduct an appropriate mental health status exam, and identify and manage escalating symptoms during the patient’s ED visit. The course emphasizes best practice recommendations that focus on maintaining nurse and patient safety through better communication, patient engagement, de-escalation skills, violence prevention policies, and discharge and follow-up procedures.
 
Learner Outcome(s): Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to identify strategies to improve triage of psychiatric emergencies and identify escalating symptoms during the patient’s ED visit.
