Why do you seek a position on the ENA Board of Directors?

I would like to be on the ENA Board of Directors to help advance the emergency nursing profession on a national level. I have worked on several local, state, and national committees and councils at the nursing and advanced practice levels and would like to have a greater impact on emergency care on a larger scale. As a Board member, I can influence emergency nurses by building on the impacts I have already made and leaving behind a lasting vestige that will continue to guide the emergency nursing and emergency advanced practice nursing professions. As a Board member I can continue work on the national level as well as contribute to the emergency nursing profession by performing ongoing research that will bring the latest evidence to the front lines of ED nursing and advanced practice.

How does your academic, professional background and experience within ENA make you a qualified Board candidate?

I have completed several degrees in nursing, including ADN, BSN, MSN, and DNP. My academic experiences have allowed to be become extremely proficient in meeting tight deadlines, decision-making, strategic thinking, professionalism, leadership, research, and collaboration at prominent levels. I have also worked up the ranks professionally through my 20-year ED career, including as an ED technician, RN, educator, leader, and APRN. This has allowed me to be in several different positions with unique perspectives and work on different sides of the table. I have also studied to obtain advanced certification in emergency nursing (CEN) and was inducted into the Academy of Emergency Nursing in 2020. I have worked on several different local, state, and national committees to make a difference at different levels. I have been honored with prestigious awards, including the Frank L. Cole NP award through ENA (twice), as well as AANP’s Arkansas State Award for Excellence.

Outline the specific skills you bring, or contributions you hope to make to the ENA Board of Directors.

I hope to bring my organizational capability, proficiency at meeting stringent deadlines, decision-making skills, strategic thinking, professionalism, leadership, research, and collaboration to the ENA Board of Directors. I have made significant contributions at the local, state, and national levels through ENA and would like to take my expertise and involvement at an even higher level on the BOD. Since I have experience in the ED at several different ranks, I believe I can interpose a unique perspective. I would be excited to work alongside some of the most brilliant and motivated minds in emergency nursing to not only enhance my practice, but the practice of others. I have also presented at local, state, national, and international levels at nursing and NP conferences and believe my didactic experience can further augment the BOD from a leadership perspective.

Provide a narrative that exemplifies how you demonstrate the Board competencies.

In national committees especially, one must be able to collaborate with people from different states and career levels. I have demonstrated this continuously by being chosen to participate in several committees in different state and national professional nursing and NP organizations. I was elected as Chair of ENAP for 2019 and for EN19 Conference APRN Planning Committee and had to demonstrate decision making and professionalism constantly. During my tenure as ENAP Chair, a Position Statement for APRNs in the Emergency Department was released by ENA, Emergency Nurse Practitioner Competencies were completed, and a conglomerate of professional organization stakeholders for APRNs in the ED was formed. At times there were differences in opinions, but I was able to manage any conflict effectively. I am currently in an MBA program in leadership (graduation February 2024), so I have been continuously improving my business acumen.
