Steven J. Jewell, BSN, RN, is in his second year as a member of the Emergency Nurses Association Board of Directors.

Jewell was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. His family was in the U.S. Army and moved accordingly until settling in San Antonio, Texas. Jewell grew up playing trumpet throughout school, eventually playing with the San Antonio Youth Orchestra and the San Antonio Symphony.

Jewell enlisted into the U.S. Navy as a trumpet instrumentalist. He served at several duty stations including the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and the School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia, which allowed him the opportunity to travel the globe for the benefit of recruiting, foreign relations and various ceremonies.

After retirement from the U.S. Navy, Jewell enrolled at the Baptist School of Health Professions in San Antonio, Texas, to become a registered nurse. Jewell has been an emergency department nurse since graduation and is currently a stretcherside nurse at a Level I Department of Defense Trauma Center. He has been a staff nurse, charge nurse, educator and an international fixed wing flight nurse.

Jewell previously served as ENA Foundation chairperson, Texas ENA Council president and San Antonio ENA Chapter president. Jewell earned the ENA Educator of the Year Award in 2018. He has been an active speaker on emergency nursing for several associations on many levels, and frequently presents to organizations on the topics of educational events and fundraising.

Jewell has vast experience collaborating with multiple organizations and looks to use that knowledge for the benefit of emergency nurses and our communities. Jewell is a supporter of international nursing education, philanthropy and outreach, and hopes to utilize his background to enhance care delivery across the globe.
