Shannen Kane, BSN, RN, is the 2019 Emerging Professional Liaison to the Emergency Nurses Association Board of Directors, serving in a non-voting role.
Kane discovered her passion for emergency nursing when she was working in the float pool of University of North Carolina Hospitals as a nursing assistant. She spent time in all units throughout the hospital, but found herself drawn to the energy and high-speed environment of the emergency department. She transferred to the ED as a nursing assistant for the remainder of nursing school and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2018 with her bachelor’s in nursing.
Kane is currently working as a clinical nurse I in the ED of UNC Hospitals. Kane serves as editor of the UNC ED newsletter and is a member of the trauma committee.
Kane discovered the value of professional organizations when she served as treasurer, and then president, of her nursing school’s chapter of the Association of Nursing Students. Upon graduation, she immediately became involved in her local chapter of ENA and received a 2018 ENA Foundation Annual Conference Scholarship to attend Emergency Nursing 2018 in Pittsburgh. Kane also presented her research, for which she received highest honors, at the 2018 North Carolina ENA Conference.
As the Emerging Professional Liaison to the ENA Board of Directors, Kane is excited to increase involvement of professionals who are early in their emergency nursing career and to retain young professionals as ENA members.
Term as Emerging Professional Liaison: January 2019-December 2019
