‘Intent to Run’ Letters Due December 3, 2004
This Call for Candidates officially begins the ENA election process for 2005. Open positions include president-elect, secretary/treasurer, and two (2) director positions. The officer positions are one-year terms with the president-elect continuing on to the presidency the following year. Director positions are three-year terms. Depending upon the outcome of the officer elections, one or two additional director seats may be available for terms equal to the unexpired terms of the vacating directors. The candidates receiving the next highest number of votes would fill these positions.
Potential candidates must file an "Intent to Run" letter by the first Friday in December (December 3, 2004). The "Intent to Run" letter must include: Your name, address, home and work phone numbers, fax number, e-mail address, and which position you intend to run for (president-elect, secretary/treasurer, director). Please address the letter to the ENA Elections Process Committee, in care of Mary Ellen Wilson, RN, MS, FNP, CEN, Committee Chair. You may forward your letter by U.S. mail to 915 Lee Street, Des Plaines, Illinois, 60016; by fax to 847/460-4002; or by e-mail to kzick@ena.org.
The "Intent to Run" letter must be received by 5:00 p.m. CST on December 3, 2004, or you will not be eligible to participate in the 2005 election process. This is an absolute deadline. Please note: There will be no exceptions.
The qualifications for all positions require that candidates must be current members of ENA, must have been current members for three (3) consecutive years prior to election, must have a current unencumbered RN license, and must have attended at least one ENA General Assembly within the last five years as a delegate, alternate delegate, or member of the Board of Directors. Candidates for the position of president-elect and secretary/treasurer must be currently serving as a voting member of the national ENA Board of Directors.
Campaign Guidelines
ENA believes that candidates for ENA national offices must have equal opportunity to access the entire membership. To maintain a professional atmosphere and in fairness to all candidates, as well as to prevent divisiveness during the campaign process, ENA believes that all activities other than those sanctioned by the National organization be limited to the spoken word. Candidates and all members are reminded that ENA procedures prohibit campaigning on behalf of the candidates in any fashion.
Members are requested to comply with the following campaign guidelines: Limit written and mailed statements to the ENA Connection and/or state newsletter; state newsletters should reflect the position of all candidates, not just the candidate from the same state where the particular newsletter is generated; and all questions to the candidates and their responses will be posted on the ENA Web site.
Once your "Intent to Run" letter is received, a 2005 ENA Board Candidate Packet will be forwarded to you. This packet will contain information about the 2005 Candidates’ Forum that will be held at Leadership Challenge 2005 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, March 12. Completed candidate packets must be received by 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on January 7, 2005, or you will not be eligible to participate in the 2005 election process. This is also an absolute deadline. There will be no exceptions. If you have questions or need assistance, call Kari Zick, manager of component relations, at 847/460-4092 or end an e-mail to kzick@ena.org.
Board candidate information and ballots will be mailed to all active members in May. To receive a ballot, you must be a current ENA member on or before May 1, 2005.
