Call for CEN®, and CFRN®/CTRN™ Item Writers
No Item Writing Experience Necessary—item writers are a key element to certification. It is the item writers that have clinical expertise in a specialty and use that expert knowledge to initiate items (test questions) specifically for certification in their specialty. At this time, BCEN is taking requests for item writing applications. For more information regarding item writing submission please click here: www.ena.org/bcen/news.

Project Hope—Volunteers Needed
Project HOPE's (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) mission is to achieve sustainable advances in health care around the world by implementing health education programs, conducting health policy research, and providing humanitarian assistance in areas of need; thereby contributing to human dignity, promoting international understanding, and enhancing social and economic development. The essence of Project HOPE is teaching; the basis is partnership.

Project HOPE will once again bring teams of MDs, RNs and other health professionals to staff the Mercy during its mission. U.S. Navy regulations stipulate that volunteers must be U.S. citizens in good health to withstand the rigors of shipboard life. Volunteers must have a current passport, have a current medical/professional license and be currently practicing.

The USNS Mercy will visit areas such as the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, with stops in the tsunami-affected areas, from the period of May until September 2006. There are 4 rotations during USNS Mercy's sail. Volunteers may serve aboard for one or more rotations.

  • Rotation 1: May 20 - June 23 Philippines (35 day assignment)
  • Rotation 2: June 22 - July 25 Bangladesh, Nias (34 day assignment)
  • Rotation 3: July 21 - Aug 6 Banda Aceh (17 day assignment)
  • Rotation 4: Aug 3 - Sept 3 Indonesia, Timor (32 day assignment)
