Illuminate the Pathway to ED Design: Nurses Create Flexible Design Solutions Incorporating Security and Safety in the ED

Presented by FreemanWhite ED Design Team

Description:

EDs can be unpredictable environments.  A large part of the planning process for a new or renovated ED should be the incorporation of design solutions, operational processes and technologies that all support a safe and efficient environment. The key to designing a safe emergency department is to work with nurses and staff to identify the key safety goals early in the process. This presentation will draw on FreemanWhite’s experience of designing over 200 emergency departments and will identify and present numerous case-studies of recently designed and functioning emergency departments that were shaped by the driving demand for patient and staff safety, including pediatric and geriatric components. Should you ever find yourself part of an ED design team at your hospital, this presentation will also assist the ED nurse in understanding how to help shape a successful ED design with safety as a key design driver.
