July 14, 2005 - Seventh Edition

Farewell to a Colleague and Friend
Joan Mika, long-time Course Operations Manager, will retire at the end of July. During her 11 years at ENA, Joan has made many contributions to the successful dissemination of TNCC/ENPC/CATN. Her willingness to assist Course Directors and others to meet the challenge of putting on courses day-to-day is legendary.

We will all miss her very much. We have planned a special opportunity for those of you who want to personally wish Joan the best. Joan and her husband will be with us at Annual Meeting in Nashville in the Exhibit Hall on Thursday, September 15, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Please plan to join us!

Welcome to a New Colleague
Maureen Howard has recently joined ENA as our new Course Operations Manager. Maureen brings with her a great deal of customer service experience. She also has a wealth of technical expertise which will be a great asset during the development and transition to a new TNCC/ENPC/CATN database planned for 2006-2007.

We are very pleased to have Maureen join the ENA team and look forward to her contributions. Maureen can be reached at (800) 900-9659, extension 4010 or at mhoward@ena.org.

Course Grant Program for States Councils
The last edition of CourseBytes announced the new enhanced TNCC/ENPC/CATN grant program for state councils http://www.ena.org/catn_enpc_tncc/CourseBytes/06-28-05.asp.

Each state is receiving $2,000 and is free to use the funds in any manner which specifically supports courses. Some examples are:

  • Sponsor a provider course(s) in underserved areas
  • Sponsor an instructor course(s) in underserved areas
  • Purchase manuals for instructors and/or attendees
  • Reimburse travel expenses of course directors, faculty, instructors and/or attendees
  • Reimburse expenses incurred to monitor instructor candidates
  • Market courses in areas where ENPC or CATN have not been traditionally strong

While there are no strings attached to the funds and no time restrictions, we would like to hear how the funds were used so that success stories can be shared. Future funding of this program will be evaluated in light of budgetary considerations and feedback received from the states.

Grant funds will be distributed as an add-on to the second quarter 2005 course assessment which will be paid by the end of July. Contact your state president or treasurer to get more information about accessing the funds.

Your Input is Welcome
Topic ideas for future issues and feedback are welcome at CourseBytes@ena.org. If you know of anyone who should be receiving this email but is not, please ask them to email us at CourseBytes@ena.org with their name, current home address and home and work email addresses.
