2008 Director Christine Gisness

Christine Gisness, RN, MSN, FNP, CEN, is currently serving as a member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Board of Directors, the specialty nursing association serving the emergency nursing profession through research, publications, professional development, and injury prevention. Gisness’ term ends in December 2009.

Gisness is a family nurse practitioner at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Emory University, at the Grady Memorial Hospital Emergency Care Center, Atlanta, Georgia. Since 2002, she has also worked as a per diem staff nurse practitioner in the emergency department at the Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa, Georgia.

Gisness has been an emergency nurse for more than 24 years. Most recently she has served on the 2007 Leadership Conference planning committee and has been a contributing author in Mosby’s Manual of Emergency Care. Gisness is also an Instructor for ATCN for the American Trauma Society.

Gisness has served as a trustee and as the 2003 secretary-treasurer on the ENA Foundation Board, receiving the 2004 ENA Foundation Pillar Award. She has served as past president and treasurer in both the Georgia State Council and the Metro Atlanta Chapter. She is a contributing author in Sheehy’s Emergency Nursing Principles and Practices (4th & 5th eds.).

Gisness received her associate’s degree in nursing from Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and her Master of Science degree from the Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. She has been certified since 1985 as an emergency nurse by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN). Gisness is also a provider of Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) and EN CARE Injury Prevention Programs. Additionally, she is faculty for the Trauma Nursing Core Course and ENA’s Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, American Nurses Association, and the Georgia Nurses Association. She is certified as an FNP with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
