2008 President-Elect Bill Briggs

William T. Briggs, RN, MSN, CEN, FAEN, is currently serving as a member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Board of Directors, the specialty nursing association serving the emergency nursing profession through research, publications, professional development, and injury prevention. Briggs’ term ends in December 2008.

Briggs is the Trauma Program Manager at Tufts – Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He is also a per diem staff nurse in the emergency department of Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, Massachusetts – a position which he has held for over 22 years. He is a past president of the Massachusetts State Council of ENA, and served on the ENA Board of Directors from 1995-1997, 2003-2005 and in 2007. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Emergency Nurses Association Foundation, the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing, and EN CARE/ENA Institute for Injury Prevention.

In addition to his work with ENA, Briggs is a member of the Metro Boston Critical Incident Stress Management Team. He is a past president and education coordinator of the Metro Boston C.I.S.D. Team. He has been a member of ENA since 1978. In 1994 he was awarded the inaugural ENA National Nurse Manager’s Award and in 1997 he was honored with a Special Recognition Award by ENA for contributions to the ENA Board of Directors.

Briggs is licensed as a registered nurse in the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York. He received his Associate of Science degree in nursing from the University of the State of New York, Albany, in 1976, and his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, in 1977. In 2001, he received his Master of Science degree in nursing administration from Salem State College, Salem, Massachusetts. He has been certified in emergency nursing by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing since 1984. In 2006, he was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Nursing.

Briggs has been an instructor and instructor-trainer in first aid and home nursing for the American Red Cross, and is currently an instructor and faculty for ENA’s Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
