Personal Statement - Why I Want to Serve and What I Would Like to Contribute While Serving as Chairperson-Elect
I am willing to serve as the Academy Board Chairperson-Elect. My previous leadership experience obtained in positions for the Chapter and the Mississippi State Council since the late 1970’s, along with community leadership roles, provides the leadership experience needed for the continued development/guidance of the Academy of Emergency Nursing. |
Position Statement - Personal Perspectives and Strategies on How the Academy of Emergency Nursing Can Help Advance the Profession of Emergency Nursing
As a member of the Emergency Nurses Association since 1976, I have served the organization in many roles. I have been active on both the state and chapter level along with serving as a member of the National Education Committee in 1987-88, member of the National Research Committee in 2005, and currently as a reviewer for the Journal of Emergency Nursing. I believe that the Academy of Emergency Nursing, along with ENA, is responsible for seeking initiatives whether it is in policy, education, research, practice, or leadership that will promote the development of emergency nurses and improvement of emergency nursing care. If elected to serve as the Academy Board Chairperson-Elect for 2007-2008 and then as Chair in 2009-2010, I am ready to give my time and am committed to serve the organization and the Academy of Emergency Nursing to the best of my abilities. I am committed to the continued development of the Academy Emergency Nursing to the fullest extent for the advancement of emergency nursing care and emergency nursing as a profession as outlined by charges from the ENA Board of Directors.
As fellows, it is our responsibility to reach out to all levels of the association. We need to think about the new nurse in emergency care or those who have just joined ENA to continue to ensure they know and understand the procedures and qualifications needed as future potential candidates. We need to develop a method to ensure potential candidates develop a relationship with current Fellows that would provide a means for candidates to obtain the required recommendation needed as a candidate to the Academy.
Methods need to be established to demonstrate the continued involvement of the member of the Academy to ensure they are viewed as professional members who are committed to promote emergency nursing care. This will provide the membership of ENA evidence of the continued involvement of fellows and further understanding as the meaning and responsibilities of being a Fellow.
