Statement to the Membership
I have been a member of ENA since the early 1970s and I have seen the specialty of emergency nursing change greatly. Our organization has changed, and needs to continue to do so, to meet the demands of our profession and of our members. Technology, practice issues and most of all, the needs of our members must stay current and fluid. The demographics of the members have changed -- some of us are younger with a different perspective on our specialty. Practice issues, and what we want the national organization to be and do for us has also changed. ENA leadership needs to be broad-based from a variety of settings. Members come from small rural facilities that are sole-provider hospitals with few beds, to the large Level 1 trauma centers, and everything in between. The common denominator is the care that our patients need. ENA should lead the way in demonstrating the way to provide this care safely and efficiently.

Our leaders must have broad vision, be impartial, thoughtful, available to the members and willing to seek opinions from all members. This is not an easy job! The Nominations Committee must strive to find the best candidates for these leadership positions and provide a fair and equitable election process. Members have given the Nominations Committee specific charges to achieve these goals and the committee needs to find suitable candidates and mentor them through the election process. The Nominations Committee functions within guidelines from members and I feel my being on the committee for the last two years will allow me to continue to serve the members with just a small learning curve. I have worked in many capacities for more than 35 years, from staff nurse to director of education, and feel I have the experience and insight to help the Nominations Committee achieve its goal of providing qualified candidates for our leadership positions.

ENA has been very important to my career over the years and I would like to see it continue to do so for other emergency nurses. Stay involved, vote and keep ENA strong.

Platform Statement
ENA needs a fair, impartial election process for all and I would like to serve on the Nominations Committee for a second term to ensure this happens. My experiences the last two years make me a valuable, experienced asset who can rejoin the committee immediately with a minimal learning curve.
