POSITION STATEMENT
What leadership attribute is essential to enhance the image and effectiveness of ENA?

Because ENA is a professional organization whose members join voluntarily, one of the most essential leadership attributes a leader can bring to the organization is the ability to motivate and inspire. This attribute enhances the ability to influence forces both internal and external to the Association as we seek to advance the causes of emergency nursing. It also encourages current members to become engaged in the activities of the organization as well as stimulates interest in non-members to join the Association.

STATEMENT TO THE MEMBERSHIP
It is an honor to present my name for consideration as a Director for the ENA board. I have been actively involved in the association since 1997, serving in numerous local, state and national roles and have worked on committees ranging from the leadership conference planning committee to governmental affairs chairperson. I believe that my diverse involvement in numerous facets of the organization allows me a more well-rounded view of the activities that are undertaken by the Association if I were selected to serve as a Director.

Similarly, I have had a very diverse history in the field of emergency nursing. I started working in the ED in 1993 and remain active in the field. Over the years, I have worked as a staff nurse, manager, administrator, flight nurse, educator, consultant and state surveyor. This wide range of experience provides me with a 360 degree view of the profession of emergency nursing and helps me better understand the unique needs of those who work within it.

Because ENA is a not-for-profit organization, I believe that other life experiences I bring with me make me a uniquely qualified candidate. I started my own not-for-profit organization over 20 years ago and it continues to grow and thrive today. I have also served on the boards of numerous other not-for-profit organizations. These experiences have helped me learn about the not-for-profit world and I believe they will serve me well and decrease the learning curve as a Director should I be elected to this position.

Finally, in my current role, I have the opportunity to travel across our country and meet thousands of emergency nurses every year. This has allowed me to better understand the diverse needs of emergency nursing from a national standpoint.

I would love the opportunity to utilize my background to help guide ENA. My goals would be to maintain current member services as well as look for additional opportunities that ensure members will look to ENA as an invaluable resource. I would also like to see ENA continue to expand as a powerful influence in shaping health care nationally.
