Position Statement
What attribute is essential to enhance ENA’s mission of Safe Practice and Safe Care?
Being a strong, educated leader who is dedicated to safe patient care is essential to promoting ENA’s mission of Safe Practice and Safe Care. This leader can be an individual, a group of individuals including members of our organization or more importantly, our organization working as a whole. I will address this issue using our organization as an example, but the following attributes could be applied to an individual or a small group. We (ENA) need to be articulate and to be able to work within the financial constraints that are becoming more common. To accomplish this we need to become more innovative and flexible without compromising patient care. ENA needs to be a leader and work with the organizations that continue to put constraints on our care without input from those who practice at the bedside. This may mean revisiting some of our nursing practices, looking to see if they are indeed evidenced based and contribute to safe patient practice and care. With these attributes ENA can continue to be a leader in promoting safe practice and safe care in the future.

Statement to Membership
I have had the privilege to serve as a member of the Nominations Committee for the past two years. Being on this committee has afforded me a larger working knowledge of our organization and hopefully has benefited our organization. I have always felt that the strength and future of ENA resides in its membership. Though the years as an ENA member I have observed several of our members rise through the ranks and become elected as our leaders. As a member of the Nominations Committee I am now able to assist with the election process. I became interested in nursing through working as a pre-hospital provider. I have worked as a nurse in several hospital departments, but when I landed in the Emergency Department, I knew I was in the right spot and have been there over 20 years. Having worked in both an academic Level One adult and pediatric trauma center and a Critical Access emergency department, has given me the opportunity to practice in a variety of settings. My roles in emergency nursing have included being a clinical nurse, manager and clinical educator. Locally, I have participated on the New Hampshire State Council as the Treasurer for 8 years, been a co-chair of the Nursing Practice Committee and have participated in several educational offerings. I have said this before, “ENA is near and dear to my heart because any member can become involved with the organization, have the potential to become a leader, participate in changes that enhance patient care and improve the specialty of emergency nursing.” Being reelected would allow me to continue the work of the past two years. We will soon be reducing our meeting schedule to one meeting a year from two. This change is not as simple as it might seem as it has required by-law changes and much thought how to continue to let you meet the candidates and remain involved in the election process. My being reelected would ensure continuity in this process. It would be an honor to be reelected to serve you as a member of the Nominations Committee.
