Statement to the Membership I believe that the single most important thing ENA does is to bring emergency nurses together in an atmosphere of mutual support. Everything else falls into place. The trends that we’ve seen in emergency care are daunting, but less so if we tackle them together. We are almost 37,000 strong, and growing!
The mission and vision of ENA are exciting, but with as large and complex an organization, we need experienced, savvy leaders who understand members' needs, our infrastructure, and fiduciary responsibility, and can help guide the Association to use its resources effectively.
I became involved in ENA in 1977, when another ED staff nurse at Boston City Hospital published an article in JEN. I have been encouraging nurses to "write it up" ever since. Since joining ENA, I’ve served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Emergency Nursing for 25 years, worked on national committees and task forces, attended chapter, state council, and national board meetings, and enjoyed an esprit de corps with colleagues across the country. I’ve learned something at every meeting, every conference and with every conversation along the way.
The passion of my career has been advocacy for vulnerable populations, first with the homeless, then sexual assault victims, emergency psychiatric patients and, more recently, nurses who become sick or injured at work. Throughout, I've consistently advocated for emergency nurses. It has been gratifying to be able to mentor and work shoulder to shoulder with colleagues in ENA with increasing responsibility.
I have taken the roles of ENA board member and secretary/treasurer very seriously, always listened closely to members, and strongly and conscientiously advocated for the dignity and needs of individual members, the development of the association, and the promotion of the specialty of emergency nursing. I would appreciate your vote, and will continue to work for you and our patients with enthusiasm honesty and integrity. Thank you! Back to top

Platform Statement I’ve been privileged to be part of ENA since 1977, serving as editor of JEN for 25 years, on countless committees, and as an ENA director and secretary/treasurer. As president-elect, I would bring the experience and wisdom I’ve gained to advocate for emergency nurses and our patients, with integrity. Back to top |

Position Statement and Response The ENA Strategic Framework supports expansion of and fortification of ENA’s membership to generate greater involvement in the emergency nursing community. Under your leadership, what will you do to support and accomplish this goal? I will increase membership by helping to make ENA so essential, and helping to make this community of emergency nurses so valuable, that membership is a "need to have," not just "nice to have." I’ll continue to strongly advocate to keep costs low, so membership is also a "possible to have," and to listen, closely, to emergency nurses. Back to top
