POSITION STATEMENT What leadership attribute is essential to enhance the image and effectiveness of ENA??
Now is the time for ENA to take the opportunity to leverage the knowledge and passion of our members into actions that improve our professional practice, the care we provide, and the health of our patients. ENA leaders must possess business savvy skills that are coupled with a superior emergency nursing knowledge-base. We must also possess strength in interpersonal skills, the most essential being emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to recognize and understand our own feelings and the feelings of others. Emotional intelligent leaders use this knowledge for motivation and team-building. We are effective in dealing with the complexity involved in an ever-evolving environment and are more likely to achieve results by building relationships that result in highly-engaging organizational cultures. STATEMENT TO THE MEMBERSHIP Thank you for the opportunity to continue our conversation this year about the future of our profession, and the future of ENA. During last year’s election cycle, I shared with you my platform that is focused on ENA’s greatest asset, our members. Focusing on our members needs and hopes for their profession remains my top priority. It requires us to be true servant leaders: accessible, transparent, supportive, and empowering. The priorities and positions of ENA should continue to be decided by our members.
As we plan the future of ENA together, we must be cognizant of this great organization’s rich history. Our current and past leaders have created a financially strong entity with efficient business practices. With resilience, we advocate for the stretcherside nurse and the patients we serve. We have a clearly stated ENA mission and vision with relevant clinical priorities. We must not only sustain these achievements, but build upon them in this exciting time for the nursing profession.
I am seeking a position on the board of directors because I have been inspired by others to serve our professional organization. With my skill set, this role is the next logical step in serving ENA. Serving on the board of directors is an exciting challenge, and there are many experiences I bring to the table to assist in leading this organization. I am an active listener able to motivate, empower, and lead others. I am able to collaborate and compromise while sustaining core values. ENA will be most successful and most credible when we are successful in working together with other organizations. On behalf of Ohio ENA, I have successfully collaborated with many other state level organizations for legislative issues and other public policy endeavors. My nurse executive board certification combined with my past administrative experience and recent contingent staff position makes me well suited for this position. I look forward to our discussions about ENA and emergency nursing practice, and I ask for your vote. Back to top
