Marylou Killian, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, CEN, is currently serving as a member of the Emergency Nurses Association board of directors, the specialty nursing association serving the emergency nursing profession through research, publications, professional development, and emphasis on quality and patient safety. Killian's term ends in December 2013.
Killian has been an emergency nurse for more than 25 years -- as a staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist and, for the last 14 years, as a nurse practitioner in the emergency department. She currently works at Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Killian joined ENA when she started working in the emergency department and has served in many capacities for the Berkshire, Adirondack, and Mid-Hudson Chapters. As a member of the New York state council she became Trauma Nursing Core Course and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course faculty, was state council treasurer from 1999 to 2000 and president in 2002. She was awarded the New York State Special Recognition and the Anita Dorr Awards as a result of her work. She served on a number of national workgroups including: the lead editor for the 4th edition of the Standards of Emergency Nursing Clinical Practice, Ethics Work Group, State Issues Workgroup and Course Administration Faculty.
Killian received her diploma from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing, her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Excelsior College (formally the University of the State of New York), her Master of Science in nursing, and her Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from Russell Sage College. She received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau.
