Executive Director
Sue Hohenhaus

Susan M. Hohenhaus, LPD, RN, CEN, FAEN, assumed the position of executive director for the Emergency Nurses Association on September 12, 2011. Dr. Hohenhaus was previously the director of ENA’s Institute for Quality Safety and Injury Prevention, and president of Hohenhaus and Associates, a health care consulting company.

“I am delighted to accept the position of executive director of this distinguished association,” said Dr. Hohenhaus. “These are exciting times for emergency nursing and for ENA.  I look forward to working with the board and the staff to advocate for patient safety and excellence in emergency nursing practice and improving health care and health care delivery.”

Dr. Hohenhaus has more than 30 years experience as an emergency nurse. She has published numerous studies in peer-reviewed journals and has served on several councils and committees, including the National Advisory Council of the American Red Cross, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Biodefense Advisory Group and the National Institute of Child Health and Development. She has received numerous awards and honors, including the National Emergency Medical Services for Children Heroes Award, the ENA Advanced Practice Nursing Education Scholarship and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Leadership Award.  She was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Nursing in 2005.

Dr. Hohenhaus earned her Doctorate in Law and Policy at Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree in Social Policy and Health Care Policy and a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health and Human Services from Empire State College, and an associates degree in nursing from Regents College of the University of the State of New York.For more information, please contact the ENA Executive Services Office at 1-847-460-4095 or ExecOffice@ena.org.
