The ART of Resuscitation – A New Process for Improving Outcomes from Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Presented by ZOLL Medical Corporation

Description:

Professor Daniel Davis, M.D., Head of the Resuscitation Science Center at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center has developed a new experiential method for training participants responding to cardiac arrest in hospitals, which he has termed "Advanced Resuscitation Training" (ART). A heavy emphasis on CPR performance and minimal interruptions has shown this training to be very effective. The two UCSD hospitals who piloted the training program improved outcomes from cardiac arrest, doubling survival to discharge from 21% to 42% in the first 18 months post initiation of the program. Neurologically intact survival also doubled. Dr. Davis has most recently been working to tailor his training to address the specific needs of code response in the emergency department. ZOLL Medical invites you to join us to learn about this impactful training program and see how it can be applied to emergency departments and throughout the hospital.

Design Tools, Methods and New Ideas for EDs – All on a Tighter Budget

Presented by FreemanWhite ED Design Team, Annual Conference Supporter

Description:

EDs are challenging environments to work in. With increasing patient volumes and acuities and the non-urgent patient seeking medical care, how do you keep LWBS/LWOT at or below 2%?  How can we keep ambulance diversion hours in check? How do you keep an average patient LOS near or at best practice of 2-2.5 hours, especially when the hospital has a limited construction budget for increasing the EDs physical capacity? This course will present dynamic design tools and methods for identifying waste in ED processes as developed by FreemanWhite’s multi-disciplinary ED design team.  Tools covered in this course include lean planning tools such as workflow documentation; computer simulation modeling and scenario analysis tools that can help you and your ED design committee make the most of your available capital and operational budgets. FreemanWhite will also present flexible physical design solutions that will assist you in handling surges in daily patient volume as well as the ability to effectively address variable patient medical needs.
