About TNCC

This edition expands the opportunity for application of trauma knowledge and skills by increasing the Trauma Nursing Process teaching activities from six to eight scenarios. Other enhancements include:

  • Reshaped and revised pre-course learning activities to include modules on communication and shock.
  • The addition of “The LGBTQ+ Trauma Patient” chapter.

Prerequisites
  • Only registered nurses are eligible for provider status.
  • Licensed practical nurses and paramedics are eligible to attend all portions of the course and obtain CNE hours, but are not eligible for provider status verification.

Provider Manual: The provider manual includes evidence-based content developed by experts in trauma care. A valuable resource for future reference.

Pre-course learning: Includes access to required online modules prior to the course date to let you learn at your own pace, apply what you learn, and receive immediate feedback. Modules include a step-by-step breakdown of the Trauma Nursing Process and a comprehensive study guide.

Instructor-led classroom presentations and skills stations: TNCC is typically delivered over one-and-a-half days. In-person, hybrid or virtual classroom learning includes skill stations, group discussion and other interactive exercises. 

Online Examination: Electronic open-book testing enables you to test in an environment that makes you most comfortable. No more test anxiety!

Who is eligible to participate in TNCC?

Both RNs and non-RNs are eligible to obtain a four-year provider verification.

How is the verification process structured?

Learners must pass the following assessments to receive the four-year verification:

  • Skill Station Test: Demonstrate all critical steps.
  • Online Exam: Passing score is 80 percent. Learners are offered two attempts to pass the exam. Both exam attempts must be taken within seven days of the last day of the course.

What are the types of TNCC courses?

  • The TNCC Full Course is for learners who are taking the full one-and-a-half-day provider course. Full course learners must complete the pre-course modules, attend one-and-a-half-days of classroom lecture and activities, complete the skill station test and the online exam. Learners receive 19.50 CNE hours for completing the Trauma Nursing Core Course.
  • The TNCC Renewal Course is for RNs whose TNCC provider status has been expired for less than 180 days. It is a one-day course that offers classroom presentations (including the TNP), the skill station test and the online exam. Learners receive 13.50 CNE hours for completing the Trauma Nursing Core Course Renewal. Non-RNs are not eligible to take the renewal course.

What are the TNCC Provider Course registration options?

When learners register for the TNCC Provider Course with ENA, they must choose from the following three student types:

  • Full Course (RN) is for RNs who are taking the full one-and-a-half-day provider course. Full course RN learners must complete the pre-course modules, attend one-and-a-half days of classroom lecture and activities, complete the skill station test and the online exam. Full Course (RN) learners receive 19.50 CNE hours.
  • Full Course (Non-RN) is for non-RNs who are taking the one-and-a-half-day provider course. Non-RN learners must complete the pre-course modules, attend one-and-a-half days of classroom lecture and activities, complete the skill station test and the online exam. Non-RN learners receive 19.50 CNE hours.
  • Challenger (RN) is for RNs who have taken TNCC in the past, are knowledgeable about the TNP process and are comfortable with self-study. Challenger learners must complete the pre-course modules, but do not attend the classroom portion of the course. They only attend day two of the course to complete the skill station test and the online exam. TNCC Challenger learners receive 9.00 CNE hours. Non-RNs are not eligible to challenge the course.
